New OX in Paris
Our friend OX sent us his latest work. The context of this is perfect, it allows the billboard to coexist with its surrounding space, rather than clash as most billboards do.

Ericailcane At Fifty24SF gallery
Ericailcane's show in San Fransisco opened Thursday night at Fifty24SF gallery. I really just love his painting style, and the drawings on paper look even better. I wish I was there to check this show out! Unurth has photos up of the walls Ericailcane recently painted for the Pic-Turin Festival. (see below)

Aidan's Monsters!
This isn't a street art related post, but it is something that I came across last week and wanted to share...

Sometimes I get bummed out by how unfair the world can be. But the good news is the same world can come together and fight back for a good cause. Aidan is a really great artist already at age 5, and you can buy some of his great monster drawings through Aidan's Monsters on Etsy. They are super affordable and the proceeds are used to help pay for his medical bills.
"Aidan is no ordinary 5 year old boy, in fact he is quite extraordinary. What sets him apart from most kids is his love for all things scary. He loves monsters, clowns, drawing, and dressing up. He does not wait for Halloween to roll around to have an excuse to wear a costume. And you better believe while in costume he will break character for nothing.
Another thing that makes Aidan different than most children is that on September 13, 2010 he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). He was strong and pulled through his first round of chemo all while teasing his nurses and visitors. Although this was a small victory Aidan, unfortunately, must go through 2 to 3 more years of chemo treatments and everything that goes along with that."

JR wins TED grant
I was excited to see this on the front page of the NY Times Arts section this morning. TED has given JR a $100,000 grant, along with the promise to work together to develop a "Wish". The Wish, or goal to change the world for the better, will be announced at TED2011 in Long Beach, California, at the end of February. This is really great news for the world of street art, JR is an artist that makes a difference with his art, and his projects really connect with the local people. Most of you have seen his work in Africa and Brazil, as part of the Women are Heroes project:

Erica Il Cane and Lucy McLauchlan in Lisbon
Erica Il Cane and Lucy McLauchlan are currently in Lisbon painting these monster murals as part of the CRONO Project.
Some of you may notice that it is next to the buildings that Blu, Os Gemeos, and Sam3 painted earlier this year as part of the same project.
Post via Stick2Target's blog.

OX
OX's art fights the visual pollution caused by advertising in public spaces. The use of simple shapes and relation to the surrounding space makes the work really strong.
For more on the debate of who has right to the public space, check out Public Ad Campaign.
